This family of osteoglossids, 'boney-tongued' fish, holds 2 Amazonian species. Within Reserva Mamiraua only Osteoglossum bicirrhosum has been caught. This species lives throughout the floodplain entering the forest at high water. It is a predator hunting close to the surface. It often jumps clear of the water to capture insects.
